SUMMARY:Using pasture management for worm control
DESCRIPTION:Join the ParaBoss extension team as we deep dive into a topic that is very timely across much of Australia. Understanding and minimising the contamination of pastures with worm larvae is an important tool for managing worms in our livestock. The cooler months present the optimal time to reduce the larval load on pastures thereby preparing them for our most vulnerable livestock. \nDr Fiona Macarthur will explore aspects of the lifecycle of parasites and how we can manipulate them on farm to reduce the number of larvae on pastures to: \n\nsafeguard livestock\,\nreduce reliance on chemical intervention\, and thus\,\nthe onset of chemical resistance.\n\nWe look forward to you joining us for what will be an informative overview\, along with some excellent signposts to tools that you can use. \nThere will be ample time for questions\, so we encourage you to ask. \nAs always\, we encourage you to send in any questions to extension@paraboss.com.au or ask them real-time in the webinar! \nRegister today.

SUMMARY:Cattle Parasite Management Workshop – Pilot 4
DESCRIPTION:Understanding the pressing need for targeted\, effective on-farm parasite management solutions for northern cattle operations\, the ParaBoss extension team has custom-designed one-day workshops aimed at empowering producers by improving the management of external and internal parasites in cattle herds in the north. \nDue to the ongoing wet season conditions\, buffalo fly\, and cattle tick are particularly problematic at present\, and this workshop covers these important parasites in detail and allows workshop attendees to consider their control activities within the context of the complete suite of parasites local to their area. \nFollowing the successful parasite management in cattle workshops in 2023 and early 2024\, this new workshop will aim to enhance attendees’ knowledge based on the extensive feedback provided in 3 pilots. \nAttendance is free of charge\, and all workshop resources and catering will be supplied on the day. Places are limited to ensure excellent interaction between presenters and attendees. \nWe look forward to you joining us at the pilot. Please register here: https://bit.ly/4ag0Mk0 \nThe workshop will facilitate: \n\nAn improvement in overall skills and confidence of cattle producers in their understanding of internal and external parasite management\nImprove access by producers to key sources of information\nLess production losses/mortality from parasites in herds\nIncreased effectiveness of parasiticides and drenches\nDecreased impacts of chemical resistance in all parasites\n\nRSVP is essential – and the workshop numbers will be capped. Attendees will be registered on a first-in\, best-dressed basis. \nPlease do not hesitate to contact Megan Rogers\, ParaBoss Extension on 0427 459 891\, should you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Controlling buffalo flies and fly lesions: What have we learned?
DESCRIPTION:Join the ParaBoss extension team as we take you on a journey to minimise the impact that buffalo flies have in your herds. \nBuffalo flies are now ranked as the costliest health issue in Australia’s northern cattle industries and are extending their range into southern production areas. \nThey cause reductions in weight gain and milk production loss\, decrease skin quality and have been suggested to disrupt mating and reduce ease of management through the substantial irritation caused by their bites. \nLesions associated with buffalo fly infestation are also an important issue\, causing rejection of cattle from some markets and decreased value in the saleyards. \nDr Peter James will delve deep into issues in the management of buffalo flies and lesions and the implications of outcomes from recent research. \nWe look forward to you joining us for what will be an informative overview\, along with some excellent signposts to tools that you can use. \nThere will be ample time for questions\, so we encourage you to ask. \nAs always\, we encourage you to send in any questions to extension@paraboss.com.au or ask them real-time in the webinar! \nRegister today.

SUMMARY:WormBoss Sheep Workshop – Pilot 5
DESCRIPTION:The cost of internal parasites to the Australian sheep industry is estimated at $655 million\, including both prevention and production losses. Substantial gains in productivity and cost savings are possible at the farm level. \nParaBoss is developing a one-day workshop for sheep producers to help them improve their on-farm productivity and overall success of managing worms on farms. \nAttendance is free of charge\, and all workshop resources and catering will be supplied on the day. Places are limited to ensure excellent interaction between presenters and attendees. \nWe look forward to you joining us at the pilot. \nPlease register here: https://bit.ly/3uYw2VI \nThe workshops will facilitate: \n\nAn improvement in overall skills and confidence of sheep producers in their understanding of internal parasite management\nImprove access by producers to key sources of information\nLess production losses/mortality from parasites in flocks\nIncreased effectiveness of drenches and parasiticides\nDecreased impacts of chemical resistance\n\n  \nPlease do not hesitate to contact Megan Rogers\, ParaBoss Extension on 0427 459 891\, should you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Keeping Coccidiosis at bay - in sheep\, cattle and goats
DESCRIPTION:It’s winter\, and now is when we see Coccidiosis in our flocks and herds. Coccidiosis can cause significant losses in your herds and flocks. \nYou hear a lot of talk about ‘Coxie’ causing disease in livestock\, but what is it? \nThis parasite more formally called ‘coccidiosis’\, affects young sheep\, cattle and goats\, plus a range of other animal species\, including pigs and chooks. As well as death and sickness\, Coxie can slow growth rates in young stock. Sometimes undiagnosed stock losses may be due to Coxie. \nAlthough seen most often over the winter months\, Coxie is present in normal flocks and herds all year round\, and when conditions are right\, Coccidia will proliferate and cause disease. \nJoin the ParaBoss team as we explore this parasite\, which conditions give rise to its proliferation and disease\, what the signs and symptoms of disease are and its impacts on sheep\, cattle and goats. We will also discuss what steps you can take to minimise its impact in your stock. \nThere will be ample time for questions\, so we encourage you to ask. \nAs always\, we encourage you to send in any questions to extension@paraboss.com.au or ask them real-time in the webinar! \nRegister today.

SUMMARY:Best practice goat worm management
DESCRIPTION:Join the ParaBoss extension team as we take you on a journey to minimise the impacts that worms are having in your goat herds. \nThe past seasons have created a perfect environment for worms to ‘do their thing’ and they have been causing significant headaches in many areas. \nWith no new anthelmintics on the horizon for producers\, control of worms relies on careful management and with limited options is often a real challenge to maintain productivity\, health and welfare in our herds. \nPaul Meibusch from Colere will be our presenter\, and he will cover: \n\nCommon worms and the importance of understanding their biology\nPaddock management\, nutrition and browse availability\nTesting and diagnostics\nTreatment tips to reduce the reliance on chemicals and aid to slow down the development of resistance to drenches.\n\nThere will be ample time for questions\, so we encourage you to ask. \nAs always\, we encourage you to send in any questions to extension@paraboss.com.au or ask them real-time in the webinar! \nRegister today.
