SUMMARY:Keeping Coccidiosis at bay - in sheep\, cattle and goats
DESCRIPTION:It’s winter\, and now is when we see Coccidiosis in our flocks and herds. Coccidiosis can cause significant losses in your herds and flocks. \nYou hear a lot of talk about ‘Coxie’ causing disease in livestock\, but what is it? \nThis parasite more formally called ‘coccidiosis’\, affects young sheep\, cattle and goats\, plus a range of other animal species\, including pigs and chooks. As well as death and sickness\, Coxie can slow growth rates in young stock. Sometimes undiagnosed stock losses may be due to Coxie. \nAlthough seen most often over the winter months\, Coxie is present in normal flocks and herds all year round\, and when conditions are right\, Coccidia will proliferate and cause disease. \nJoin the ParaBoss team as we explore this parasite\, which conditions give rise to its proliferation and disease\, what the signs and symptoms of disease are and its impacts on sheep\, cattle and goats. SUMMARY:WormBoss Sheep Workshop - Pilot 2
DESCRIPTION:The cost of internal parasites to the Australian sheep industry is estimated at $655 million\, including both prevention and production losses. \nSubstantial gains in productivity and cost savings are possible at the farm level. \nParaBoss is developing a one-day workshop for sheep producers to help them improve their on-farm productivity and overall success of managing worms on farms. \nParaBoss is an initiative of Meat & Livestock Australia\, Australian Wool Innovation\, the University of New England\, and Animal Health Australia. \nThese workshops are now entering the pilot phase\, where producers are invited to attend to provide feedback to the development team. \nAttendance at the pilot workshops is free of charge\, however\, registration is required. Places are limited to ensure excellent interaction between presenters and attendees. \nThe purpose of the pilots is to present the workshop content to producers\, refine all aspects of the delivery of content\, and seek feedback from producers regarding whether there are any gaps in content\, and also whether the participant’s expectations are being met\, specifically in terms of the level of confidence in parasite control before and after the event. \nThe workshops will facilitate \n\nAn improvement in overall skills and confidence of sheep and cattle producers in their understanding of internal parasite management\nImprove access by producers to key sources of information\nImprove the adoption rate of producers using improved (best practice) parasite management\nIncreasing the proactivity of parasite management in flocks and herds\nIncreased uptake and use of WECs (and larval diffs) for decision-making\nImproved management of worms in sheep flocks\nLess production losses/mortality from parasites in flocks and herds\nIncreased productivity in flocks and herds\nIncreased effectiveness of drenches and parasiticides\nDecreased impacts of chemical resistance\nIncrease in use of drench checks – to determine the effectiveness of drenches\, FECRTs\nIncreased confidence of when to and not to treat livestock for parasites\n\nAttendance is free of charge\, and all workshop resources and catering will be supplied on the day. \nRSVP is essential – and the workshop numbers will be capped.
